A Symphonic Collaboration: Remote Sensations in Holst’s Planets with Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra

On April 25, 2026, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra will perform Holst’s Planets at the Meistersingerhalle – accompanied by large-scale visual projections created by Tobias Beuchert and myself. The concert pairs Holst’s iconic suite with original space imagery from NASA, ESA, ESO, and, of course, the Remote Sensations project. Although the planets depicted are far from Earth, they reveal familiar patterns, shapes, colors, and physical processes that echo across our solar system (and probably the whole universe). That universality has always fascinated me. And yet, this is a facet of Remote Sensations that only became so clear to me through working on the project.

Seeing my imagery woven into a live orchestral performance feels like a dream come true and I want to explicitly thank Tobias Beuchert for initiating this collaboration. Working on the visual concept has been a joy, and I hope this is just the beginning of many more creative ventures – so stay tuned!
