Michael Engel recently returned to his former school to give a presentation to the 9th and 10th graders. The event was a part of the school’s effort to connect students with professionals in their fields. Michael, a doctoral candidate at the Chair of Remote Sensing Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), shared insights from his leisure project “Remote Sensations” and how remote sensing is helping in understanding the Earth system.
The presentation was centered around the “Remote Sensations” exhibition, currently on display at the Naturkunde-Museum Coburg. After a short technical introduction, Michael emphasized the dual purpose of these images: to inform and to evoke emotions that inspire action. He encouraged the students to appreciate the beauty of our planet. The goal, he explained, is to tell the students that there is such a (nice) thing called remote sensing… and that there is so much fun in it! He would have loved to know when he was sitting at their place.
